Out of the (Recipe) Box ProjectIn case you haven’t noticed, I am kind of anti-gourmet.  That is to say, I’d rather focus on making a really good omelet than Roasted Pork Chops with Frisée, Lardons, and Fried Eggs. If I want to spend that kind of cash I’ll just go out and let someone else worry about the dishes. The purpose of this project is to find new dishes that I can eventually make with my eyes closed. And so far it’s a success. The Menu

My dinner guest, Sunny, said, “I don’t usually like eggplant but this is delicious.” I didn’t have a grill, or about half the spices these recipes called for, but I improvised a little and it worked. I thought the eggplant was a little too salty, but still good. I think I could probably whip this up on a weeknight on about $10. And, I’m still pretty proud of myself for making Indian food. It was half the price, and more than enough for two people.)Indian-Spiced Eggplant from the Food Network(Go easy on the butter and salt. I used less than it called for and still found it too salty and buttery. And I’m from the South.) Fruity Couscous Salad from All Recipes(I skipped the almonds and went withy raisins and cranberries)
